Endodontist are dentist with special training in diagnosing and treating oral and facial pain, and problems associated with the tissue inside the tooth. When this tissue or the tissues surrounding the tooth roots is diseased endodontic therapy typically can save the tooth. To become an Endodontist it is necessary to complete four years of dental school plus two or more years of advanced training in endodontics.
Because they limit their practices to endodontics; they treat these types of problems every day. They use their special training and experience in treating difficult cases; such us teeth with narrow canals or blocked canals, unusual anatomy, retreatments and apical surgeries.
There are approximately 4,000 active endodontist in the United States.
